A Change of Perspective

    A Change of Perspective

Can a small tower stand equal to skyscrapers?

The recently opened Museum of Modern Art building in Warsaw has stirred emotions among people around me. Intrigued, I went to see it with my own eyes. There’s no accounting for taste… I like it.

What caught my attention was the cinema tower (a prism-shaped structure adjoining one of the façades). It’s slightly taller than the main museum building, yet clearly lower — as is the museum itself — than the nearby office towers, hotels, and the Palace of Culture and Science (PKiN).

And yet, from the street level (from Marszałkowska Street), it appears taller than all of them. I don’t know whether this was the architects’ intention or just a coincidence — it doesn’t really matter. The effect is intriguing. I’m very glad I walked around the museum and saw it from a perspective that wasn’t obvious.

This happens to all of us. From time to time, we get stuck in our thinking about a challenging situation — in business, at work, at home, or in relationships. We can’t see the way forward. A shift in perspective, looking at the situation from a different vantage point, can unlock our thinking and bring creative solutions. In meetings with clients, we sometimes literally take a few steps to another spot and look at what becomes visible from there.

If you ever find yourself stuck, try — without judging (yourself) and with curiosity — taking a few steps in any direction and see what you notice from there.
